The 2009 Formula 1 season came to an end with the spectacular new Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.

In some respects the outcome of this year’s world championship was decided before any of the cars had turned a wheel in anger.

The early part of a memorable season was dominated by Brawn GP’s Jenson Button, winning  six of the first seven races, he was flying with the title aleady at that point of the season though his form dropped in the summer as first Red Bull and then his team mate Rubens Barrichello came back at him.

But yeah after a exhilarating season of F1 Button held his nerve to win the title last time out in Brazil with a fighting drive and finished the season off with a podium finish behind the two Red Bulls under the lights in Abu Dhabi.

Speculation was rife that Massa’s injury would lead to a return to racing of Michael Schumacher, this was soon discounted as a neck injury sustained while racing in the German Superbike Championship left him unable to withstand the rigours of Formula 1

Driver’s Championship Final Standings

For the first time in the history of F1 a team took both Driver’s and Constructor’s Championships in their first season.
