Mersyside blues took the lead against Roberto Mancini’s Man City side, Cahill scored from a trademark header to open the scoring. Home team were never in the game as Everton played brilliantly at the back after getting the lead and emplyed counter attack strategies. Arteta seal the win with a goal in the last minutes before the full time.
The home side had the only unbeaten home record in the league at the start of play, and were beginning to build momentum midway through the half. A superb ball from Stephen Ireland left Carlos Tevez clean through on goal, but Howard was alert to the situation and the American cleared his lines.
The game ended in controversy as both managers were sent to the stands after coming head to head on the touchline, but Everton were worthy winners in the battle of the European hopefuls.Watch full match highlights and goals here:
