Portugal vs Northern Ireland Preview:
Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates welcome Michael O’Neill’s men, who are still looking for win under their new boss.
Portugal returned to Lisbon defeated and with a lot of questions. They have started their way in the group with two unimpressive wins 2-1 away at Luxembourg and 3-0 at home over Azerbaijan. But they have shown a poor performance against Russia. They conceded an early goal and couldn’t come back. Also they lost Fabio Contreao in the starting minutes due to injury. Nani and Ronaldo were very poor at their play. So, Portugal will need to improve their game if they want to achieve the World Cup.
Northern Ireland have an awful run too. From last fifteen games they have eleven defeats. Northern Ireland played in a draw even with Luxembourg. The Irish have scored but could not hold the lead, so Luxembourg grabbed an equaliser. Coach Michael O’Neill has to do something immediately.
Real Madrid’s left-back Fabio Coentrao injured into Friday’s 1-0 defeat in Russia after first twenty minutes. Real Betis Nelson will play instead of him. Paulo Bento can also change Raul Meireles on Ruben Micael in midfield zone. Cause the Fenerbahce man picked up an injury in the training.
The guests have some key absentees too. West Brom defender Gareth McAuley is suspended. Chris Brunt with hamstring problem and Shane Ferguson has a hip injury.
Replacements for those players have been ruled out in face of Alex Bruce with groin problem, Grant McCann with knee injury, Jamie Ward with hamstring problem, Joe Dudgeon with knee injury, Martin Paterson and James McPake with Achilles problems.
Oliver Norwood and Josh Carson will probable appear in the middle of the field.
