So Thomas Vermaelen and Per Mertesacker are expected in the centre of defence. Abou Diaby with thigh injury and Andre Santos with abdominal injury are long-term absentees. Lukas Fabianski has an ankle problem and is expected in the end of January.
Alan Pardew’s team has a lot of injuries and suspensions. Cheikh Tiote returns after his suspension, while Mike Williamson will miss this game after picking up his fifth yellow card.
