Chelsea – QPR Preview:
On January 2nd Chelsea welcomes QPR at the Stamford Bridge in London. Hosts will try to get three points to continue their title hopes after west London derby. Rafael Benitez’s team has won their last four league matches and will try to enlarge their wining run against their pure local rivals.
Chelsea goes fourth in the EPL standings with thirty eight points after nineteen games, having two fixtures in advantage. They have won eleven, drawn five and lost three games so far this season. Their present form has seen four wins and one defeat from their last five games. At the last five home matches the Blues have one win, three draws and one defeat. Blues have won seven of their last eight games in all competitions. Their only defeat was in the Club World Cup final against Corinthians. Frank Lampard has 192 goals for Chelsea and is now just one goal behind the club’s all-time goalscorer Kerry Dixon.
QPR are at the bottom of the league table with ten points after twenty games. They have only one win, seven draws and twelve losses. Their last five games have seen one win, one draw and three straight defeats. Their last five games on the road have seen two draws and three losses. QPR have lost to Liverpool with the score 0-3 last round.
Rafa Benitez could give rest to some players by rotating his squad, so Oscar and Victor Moses may appear from the first minutes. Petr Cech has an ankle injury and is doubtful after being substituted during the game with Everton. Ross Turnbull will replace him in goal. Captain John Terry still has knee problems, whilst Oriol Romeu is long term injured. The Spaniard is out for the rest of the season.
QPR head coach Harry Redknapp may make some changes too after loss to Liverpool last round. Shaun Derry could return to the start squad. But Redknapp will play without forwards Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson. Park Ji-Sung has a hamstring injury and Bosingwa has back problem. So they are also going to miss this game.
