West Ham – Manchester United Preview:

On the 5th of January West Ham welcomes Man United at the Boleyn Ground in London. Sir Alex Ferguson’s team will try to repeat their 2004 FA Cup success.


West Ham goes in the middle of the EPL table on the eleventh place with twenty six points after twenty games. The Hammers have seven wins, five draws and eight defeats in the Premier League so far this season. At the Boleyn Ground they have two wins, one draw and two defeats from their last five games. In the last match they won Norwich with the score 2-1.

Last time in the FA Cup those teams met in January 2003, when the Red Devils trashed West Ham 6-0. The Hammers have won this cup for three times. Last trophy they won against Arsenal in 1980. After promotion from the Championship, West Ham played in the FA Cup final in 2006, where they lost to Liverpool.


Man Utd are at the top of the EPL with fifty two points after twenty one games. The Red Devils have seventeen wins, one draw and three defeats. Their present form has seen four wins and one draw in their last EPL matches. Lat five far away from home games in all competitions have seen three wins, one draw and one defeat.

Man United have won the FA Cup eleven times. The last one was in 2004 when they won Millwall with the score 3-0. Manchester United already won West Ham this season in the EPL in November with the score 1-0.


Andy Carroll probably will remain sidelined until the end of January, so Carlton Cole is expected to continue in attack. West Ham couldn’t count on Mohamed Diame, so Matthew Taylor will replace him in the midfield. George McCartney is the other absentee, while James Collins and Kevin Nolan are going to return after bans.

Sir Alex Ferguson the most likely will give rest to some key players like: Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra and Robin van Persie. Wayne Rooney is injured, so Danny Welbeck and Chicharito will play forward. Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa could start in midfield, while Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling could get some play-time after their returns. Phil Jones is under doubt, while Nani and Anderson are still injured.
