Chelsea vs Southampton Preview:

On January 16th Chelsea takes on Southampton at the Stamford Bridge in London. The Blues will try to maintain their winning stats against the Saints. After Chelsea 5-1 victory against Nigel Adkins’ team in the FA Cup, Southampton will be looking for a great rematch at Stamford Bridge just eleven days after.

This game was postponed from December cause of Chelsea’s participation in the Club World Cup.

Chelsea are third in the EPL standings with forty one points from twenty one matches.  They have won twelve, drawn five and lost four games so far this season. Their present form has seen four wins and one defeat in their last five fixtures. In last five matches at the Stamford Bridge the Blues have seen two wins, one draw and two straight defeats. So the fans are very angry on Rafa Benitez coaching.

Mikel and Victor Moses are at the AFCON.  They had a 0-4 away win over Stoke at the weekend, and with a win could become closer to Manchester City who will just be four points ahead. Frank Lampard scored his 194th goal for Chelsea and that’s moving him ahead of Blues legend Kerry Dixon to second on Chelsea’s all-time top scorer list.

Southampton goes fifteenth in the league table with twenty one points from twenty one games, having won five, drawn six and lost ten so far this season. Their recent form has seen one victory, three draws and one loss in their last five games. Far away from home the Saints have two wins, two draws and one defeat from their last five games.

Southampton are struggling with injuries this season and have a few of first team players out of the game.  Nigel Adkins’ team lost only two of their last eleven EPL games.

Chelsea can welcomes back John Terry. He can return to the starting line-up after two months absence with a knee injury. Demba Ba probably could start ahead of Fernando Torres. Yossi Benayoun and Oriel Romeu are out of the game. Both have knee injuries.

Nigel Adkins could play with the same squad as in Saturday’s win over Aston Villa. Luke Shaw suffered a cruel slash on his right knee. Jose Fonte is still out with knee problem, so Jos Hooiveld will keep his place alongside Maya Yoshida. Adam Lallana also remains sidelined.
