Newcastle vs Chelsea Preview:

On the 2nd of February Newcastle takes on Chelsea at the St. James’ Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The Blues will try to end their three-game winless run. Rafa Benitez’s team has lost a two-goal lead in the last five minutes in midweek and face not simple Magpies team powered-up by transfers in the January window.

Newcastle goes fifteenth in the EPL table with twenty four points from twenty four games, having won six, drawn six and lost twelve matches so far this season. The Magpies are just four points above the relegation zone. Their present form has seen one win, one draw and three defeats from their last five fixtures. Last five home games Newcastle have finished with two victories and three loses. The Magpes have won their first game in a number of weeks against Aston Villa in midweek. Newcastle has made few transfers in for a combined €23m to strengthen their squad. Five French players have joined them. Newcastle have lost to the visitors in their last game with the score 2-0.

Chelsea still stands third in the league table with forty six points from twenty four games, winning thirteen, drawing seven and loosing four. The Blues are four points ahead of the Spurs, but six points behind Man City. Their current form has seen only one win, and four draws. Last five away games Chelsea have finished with two wins and three straight draws. The Blues are disappointed in losing a 2-0 lead in the game against Reading in the last few minutes. Good news from Chelsea that Demba Ba could play against his former club, since he moved for a €8.5m a month ago. Rafael Benitez had taken 22 points from his first 12 EPL games at Chelsea. Roberto Di Matteo had taken 24 points in that period earlier this season. Juan Mata has nine goals and eight assists in 19 Premier League games.

Newcastle’s team still has a lot of injuries: Hatem Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling, Danny Simpson, Ryan Taylor and Haris Vuckic. So, Magpies spend a lot of money in the January transfer window. But Alan Pardew probably, will play with the same team that won Aston Villa 2-1 on Tuesday. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa will have to wait for his debut for his new club. Cause of impressive duo Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini.

Rafa Benitez, the most likely, will rotate his squad. Demba Ba could be featured instead of Fernando Torres. John Terry could return to the centre of defence after playing 90 minutes against Brentford. Branislav Ivanovic could replace Cesar Azpilicuenta. Chelsea are missing two key players like David Luiz with ankle injury and banned Eden Hazard.
