Both teams will be looking for positive result and progress to the next stage of the Champions League.

Galatasaray stands at the top of the Turkish Super Lig with 43 points from 22 games.  They have 6 point clear over second placed Besiktas and will try to return the title they won last season. They have been in good form lately with 3 wins, one draw and one loss from their last 5 fixtures. Last five home games they have finished with 3 wins and 2 defeats. To qualify to this stage Galatasaray finished second in their Group H behind Manchester United. Their 3 Champion’s League home games have seen a loss from Braga, a draw with Cluj and a win over Man Utd. Galatasaray new star-forward Drogba scored into his Super Lig debut. Hamit Altintop started his big career at Schalke, and than played at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Schalke are 8th in the Bundesliga with 30 points from 22 matches. They are struggling in the second part of this season. So, it leaves them 27 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, but they are just 7 points behind the final Champions League place. Their current form has seen one win, 2 draws and 2 defeats. Last five away games they have finished with two wins, two draws and one loss.  Schalke have been perfect in this tournament, and stayed unbeaten on their way to winning their Group B ahead of Arsenal. Far away from home Schalke have won Arsenal, Olympiakos and draw with Montpellier. But they have won just once in 2013.


The big news for Galatasaray is the transfers of Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder. Didier Drogba will make his first start in the Champions League after a Chinese break. Tomas Ujfalusi and Johan Elmander will miss this clash due to injuries. Emmanuel Eboue could come back at the right-back, so Sabri Sarioglu will start from the bench.

Schalke could welcome back Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after an eye injury. Nevertheless, they will miss some key players, including Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Atsuto Uchida, Ibrahim Afellay and Ciprian Marica.
