Manchester United vs Real Madrid Preview:

Date: March 5, 2013; Time: 7:45 PM UTC;

Venue: Old Trafford — Manchester.

Old Trafford waits for Ronaldo return. First leg of the last-16 finished 1-1 in Spain. The Portuguese star-forward is back at his former- club home field for the first time since he moved to Real Madrid for €93m. Both teams will try to progress into the Champions League 8th finals after 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu.

Manchester United are at the top of the EPL table with 71 points from 28 games. Their present form has been great with 4 wins and 1 draw from last five matches in all competitions. Last five home games Red Devils have finished with 5 straight wins. Also, Man Utd have 10 games winning at Old Trafford. Last time they were beaten at home field by Cluj in the Champions League.  They have played a good 1-1 draw in Spain capital, so Man Utd could be called favourite. United have managed 3 wins in a row, since the away game in Madrid with Reading, QPR and Norwich.

Ferguson and Ronaldo

Real Madrid stands 3rd in La Liga with 55 points from 26 games. Their present form has seen 1 draw and 4 straight wins from last five games. Last five away matches Los Blancos have finished with 1 draw, 1 loss and 3 wins. Real Madrid have been impressive since they met last time by beating Barcelona home in La Liga and away in the Copa del Rey. Cristiano Ronaldo will come back at Old Trafford where he scored 7 goals in 23 Champions League games. Interesting fact, that Jose Mourinho has never won a Champions League fixture at Old Trafford. Madrid are in need of score! A 0-0 draw will allow Manchester United through. A 1-1 draw will lead to extra time and potentially penalty shootouts.

Jose Mourinho could welcome first-choice goalkeeper Iker Casillas back, but probably CAP is not ready for the game at Old Trafford. Marcelo is also back in the squad after recovering from injury, but Fabio Coentrao is expected at left-back. Real Madrid head coach rested a lot of key players in the 2-1 win over Barcelona at the weekend. Such players like Alvaro Arbeloa, Sami Khedira, Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Cristiano Ronaldo will all return to the starting squad.

Phil Jones is a doubt cause of ankle problem, while Tom Cleverley is ready for this game. Rio Ferdinand also could return after missing 4-0 win over Norwich at the weekend. Jonny Evans could drop Nemanja Vidic on the bench.
