Date: March 21, 2013; Time: 7:30 PM UTC.
The Azzurri will try to end their over 30 years winless run against the Selecao. The Euro finalist will play against World Cup hosts in friendly match.
Italy have not seen the victory over their opponents from Brazil for over 30 years. Hat-trick of Paolo Rossi guaranteed the Azzurri a 3-2 win in the WC 1982. Italy have won last 3 WC qualifying games in group B and currently holds the top place with 10 points from 4 games. But they have struggled in last 2 games with France and Netherlands, losing first 1-2 and drawing second 1-1. Gianluigi Buffon could become the second most-capped Italy player ever, after Paolo Maldini. Mario Balotelli is in great form since joining Milan in January, and has 6 goals in Serie A.
Brazil are the host of World Cup 2014. They have been in indifferent form in their last five friendly games with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Brazil have won 3-0 when these two sides met in the 2009 Confederations Cup. Also the Selecao won the Azzurri on penalties on the winning road to the World Cup 1994. New head coach Scolari has lost his first game 2-1 to England last month.
Italy head coach Cesare Prandelli will be looking for first win against the South American side in over 30 years. But, he has some problems and is unable to call all powerful centre-backs. Giorgio Chiellini is a doubt after an ankle problem. So, Andrea Ranocchia could replace him in the starting line. Prandelli could start with both Milan forwards Mario Balotelli and Stephan El Shaarawy in attack. Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio and Riccardo Montolivo will act in the midfield.
Luiz Felipe Scolari has a number of injured players. Lucas Moura is injured, deep-lying midfields Paulinho and Ramires are both out due to injuries, so Fernando and Luiz Gustavo will play in front of the defence line.
