Di Canio’s Black Cats visit the Stamford Bridge in search of points. The Blues need a win if they want to stay in a top-four zone, while Sunderland are involved in relegation fight and will try to get positive result under their new coach.

Chelsea stands 4th in the EPL table with 55 points from 30 games, having 16 wins, 7 draws and 7 losses so far this season. The Blues are 2 points ahead of 5th-placed Arsenal and 2 points behind 3rd-placed Tottenham, but Chelsea and Arsenal have a game in hand. They had a very hard schedule this week with two EPL games, 1 FA cup match and 1 Europa League fixture. Their present form has seen 4 wins and 1 defeat from last five games. Last five home matches the Blues have finished with 5 straight wins. Last weekend they were defeated by Southampton 2-1. Sunderland stands 16th in the league table with 31 points from 31 games, winning 7, drawing 10 and losing 14 games so far this season. The Black Cats are just 1 point above the relegation clubs, so they need to gain points if they want to stay safe. Their present form has seen 2 draws and 3 defeats from last five games. Last five away matches the Black Cats have finished with 1 draw, 1 win and 3 straight losses. Last weekend they were beaten by Man Utd 1-0. Chelsea won the first meeting this season 3-1 thanks to goals from Fernando Torres and a goal from Mata.


Chelsea head coach Rafael Benitez will make some changes from the starting squad which beat Rubin Kazan 3-1 in the Europa League. Defenders Gary Cahill and Ashley Cole still remain sidelined. John Obi Mikel, Eden Hazard and Oscar could all start from the first minutes, while Demba Ba could replace Fernando Torres. Oriol Romeu remains injured.

The Black Cats new manager Paulo Di Canio will play without long term injured Lee Cattermole and Steven Fletcher. Sebastian Larsson could start from the beginning. Defensive duo Wes Brown and Carlos Cuellar are still unavailable.
