Brazil failed to beat Switzerland as Steven Zuber header cancels out Coutinho’s stunning opener.

Another day and another surprise in this already crazy world cup. Five time world champions, Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by a very competitive Swiss side on Sunday night. Brazil had started the game strong scoring through Coutinho and looked in good shape. However they failed to convert their chances and Switzerland scored just after half time to make it 1-1. Rest of the game, Brazil created loads of chances but lacked cutting edge.

Steven Zuber’s header in 50th minute put Switzerland back on equal terms. Brazil had only themselves to blame as they had many chances to not only win the game but get out of sight and put the game to bed. Brazil now play Costa Rica while Switzerland play Serbia and anything but a win for Brazil in their next game will really make their last group game a big one.

Match Highlights:

Brazil are set to start their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign against Switzerland on Sunday, 17th June in Group E where they also play against Costa Rica and Serbia 22nd June and 27th June respectively. Neymar has fully recovered to start the opening game and Brazil as a team will be desperate to put that 7-1 thrashing in the hands of Germany in 2014 behind them. This squad is much more balanced and they have some of the best players for every position.

The major difference between this squad and the one in 2014 is the fact Brazil can call upon quality back up as well unlike four years ago when Neymar’s injry left them shaken. Their first game against Switzerland will be a major test and it will be interesting to see how this Brazil side starts.
