England 1-1 Colombia: England break their curse beating Colombia on penalties after Mina canceled out Kane strike

Harry Kane’s solitary goal from penalty spot looked to have won it for England but a late goal by Mina yet again rescued Colombia. He scored his fourth world cup goal in injury time as Colombia went on to take England to extra time and than penalties.

Match Highlights:

England are set to take on Colombia in their first knockout tie of 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night, 03 July 2018 at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow. The game will be kicking off at around 20:00 CET / 19:00 uk time in what should be a cracking atmosphere in the stadium. This will be the last round of 16 tie and before these two teams enter the pitch they would already know the other 7 quarter finalists. The winner of this game will play either Sweden or Switzerland.

England vs Colombia Preview: England looked very good in the opening two matches with Harry Kane leading from the front and scoring 5 goals in the opening two matches. he is currently leading the scoring charts in World Cup and should fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet again on Tuesday night. Colombia on the other hand lost their opening game but came roaring back winning back to back matches and finished the group stage as group winners ahead of Japan and Senegal.

Colombia is likely to be without their talisman James Rodriguez who suffered injury in their last game. England do have an advantage of Colombia since they rested 8 of their first team players against Belgium in that 1-0 defeat. Which means Gareth Southgate’s side had around 9 days of rest compared to Colombia who started their last match full strength needing a win.

England lost 1-0 against Belgium in their last group game but we should not read too much into it considering both teams had already qualified and both made 8-9 changes. However that defeat was the reality check for England and they will be looking to avoid any complacency.

England defeated both Tunisia and Panama in their opening two games. Against Tunisia it was a difficult game and Harry Kane’s late goal rescued the win for England while they hammered Panama 6-1 on their route to knockouts. Colombia is a different team all together, they are more technical and will cause England much more problems than they have faced so far in the tournament.

Team News & Possible Starting Lineups: England will revert back to the team which started against Panama which means, Harry Kane will start upfront while Lingard, Dele Alli and Sterling to start in attacking roles while Henderson sitting deep in midfield. Tripier and Ashley Young are likely to start as full backs while Stones, Walker and Cahill to play in three man defense.

This is how I expect both teams to lineup on Tuesday night.

Match Predictions: England will be slightly favourite going into the match specially Colombia being without James Rodriguez. But Latin american sides usually get the job done against England one way or the other. England need to be vary of their dark art tricks and need to defend better. I expect England to get the job done with Harry Kane getting on the scoresheet yet again.
