England 2-0 Sweden: Maguire and Alli strikes either side of break put England in the semifinals as Sweden crash out

England are in the semifinals of FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1990 as they defeated Sweden in what was a comfortable outing for the three lions. Harry Maguire scored the opening goal from yet another corner kick routine. England looked in control and should have doubled their lead at least by half time but Sterling and Kane missed chances as Sweden just about kept themselves in the game. Dele Alli made it 2-0 midway through second half as England went into cruise mode.

England got the better of Colombia after a very competitive last 16 tie ending their penalties curse in major tournaments. England won their first ever penalty shoot-out to reach quarterfinals where they take on Sweden in what should be a cracking quarterfinal tie in Samara Arena on Saturday, 07 July 2018 starting at around 20:00 CET / 19:00 uk time.

England vs Sweden Preview: Sweden have looked pretty good in all four matches they have played so far in the tournament, they won their group which was one of the toughest beating Mexico and South Korea and were unlucky to lose against Germany. Sweden also saw off the challenge from Switzerland making it to the quarterfinals where they face England in what should be a cracking game on Saturday.

Harry Kane scores from penalty spot en route to England’s their first ever penalty shoot-out win in major tournaments. He was also on target in normal time from the spot which was later equalized by Santi Mina.

England on the other hand played out a controversial 1-1 draw leading to penalties win against Colombia which means Sweden would have had more time to recover leading to the quarterfinals. Gareth Southgate gave England players a day off after their Colombia win and he will need them back to full fitness by the start of the quarterfinal tie against Sweden if England were to stand a good chance of making it to the semifinals.

Forsbeg’s solitary deflected strike was the difference as Sweden beat Switzerland. Now they play England in what should be another competitive game on Saturday afternoon.

Team News & Possible Starting Lineups: England performances in their recent two games have been underwhelming to say the least and Gareth Southgame must find a solution to have more control in central midfield. Dele Alli have looked out of sorts so far and although he is expected to start against Sweden, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is breathing down his neck for a place in central midfield which will give England more control. However we expect Southgame to continue with 3-5-2 system with Young, Tripier, Henderson, Alli and Ligard packing the midfield.

This is how I expect both teams to lineup on Saturday afternoon.

Sweden on the other hand will continue with their trusted 4-4-2 system with Toivonen and Berg playing upfront while Forsberg, Ekdal, Svensson and Claesson taking the midfield roles.

Match Predictions: England will be slightly favourite going into the match but this Swedish side are no push overs. They made easy work of Mexico and South Korea while made all sorts of problems for Germany in the group stages. While beating Switzerland 1-0 in a routine win, Sweden are physical and direct with Forsberg coming into his own on the counter attacks. But England have the players to cope and Im just leaning towards England in this one.
